Why is there no IPv5?

You have read about IPv4 and IPv6 a lot, but have you ever wondered what happened to IPv5?

Did IPv5 even exist?

The answer is yes. IPv5 was created as an experimental protocol, also knows as ST, Stream Protocol.

IPv5 never became an official protocol, it was developed for streaming video and voice data (VoIP). It used IPv4’s 32-bit addressing, which would eventually become a problem as it restricts the number of user that can be connected to the internet. Then, IPv6 was launched as a 128-bit protocol and can support trillion trillion trillions of users.
